Hi everybody. Glad to have found a forum focused on the exhibition of poultry. Looking forward to meeting more like minded people and learning from those with more experience than myself!
As some of you may know, I am focused on bringing the white orpington back up to it's historical standard. Second project is the black orpington large fowl. And of course I am passionate about encouraging young members to get involved with poultry. My daughter is a sponge for learning so beware if you see her chasing you down with a clipboard full of questions at the shows!

Welcome to the forum....when I decided to put it together it was exactly for the reasons mentioned in your post. I hope it lives up to your expectations this has been our first few months of operation and I am very pleased. If you feel something needs to be added, do not be shy and ask..... Again welcome! Welcome to the board. That sounds like quite the project! What's the plan with the whites? Do you have enough substance in that colour to make improvements or are you going to outcross?

no outcrossing for me. There are others who've outcrossed, and in my opinion, made the "white orps" look more like rocks with white feet. I've made some selective crosses with what is already out there but I think I have what I need at this point to get to where they need to be...over time....a LOT of hatching and even more culling to weed out the junk on the way (not to mention a hefty feed bill, lol).
In the females the depth and breadth is there, but the goals for next season are better heads, reducing the hardness in the feathers and improving the top line. The males have a long way to come as far as type goes. Along the way I'm also trying to improve the fertility, vitality and egg laying ability - all things I've noticed that seem to be lost in the breed variety but I think are important in the long term survivability of the whites.

Right on. It sounds like you have it pretty under control. Hatching a lot and culling hard sounds like a good plan to me.
