I get asked alot what is the best way to raise bantam ducks
there really is no right or wrong answer.
we do both, raise and breed birds on the ground that have ample space and enclosed runs that have fresk kiddie pools changed everyday.
we also breed and condition show birds on wire bottom pens preferably in 1/2 x 1 inch wire. We originally used galavanized wire bottoms, but after some harsh winters we opted to pay a little more and purchase pvc coated bottom wire and have never looked back. Ducks never get their feet frozen on this wire and its much much easier to clean and wash away and crud.
this was a quick overview on some methods being used in our breeding pens.

I also use the raised pen method for both breeding and conditioning call ducks.....on top of that I have sunken concreate mixing tubs into one end of the pen. By ading a kitchen sink drain to the works and hooking up an external valve, I can now empty the tubs without getting my hands dirty.
